Pay Equity: I give because I Care! Campaign Launch

Moncton – The New Brunswick Coalition for Pay Equity has high hopes for its eight fundraising campaign. Launched at a social gathering in Moncton on Tuesday, October 31, the campaign "Pay Equity. I give because I care!” is targeting $ 75,000.

According to Frances LeBlanc, Chair of the Coalition, the money raised will allow us to take advantage of the growing movement for pay equity across the country and make progress in the private sector in New Brunswick and at the federal level.

"We have several projects for 2017-2018. Among other things, we want to convince all provincial political parties to include pay equity legislation for the private sector in their 2018 election platform." confirms the Chair.

The Coalition also wants to put pressure on the government to invest in the wages of care-giving workers, in the last budget of its mandate, in order to achieve pay equity as soon as possible.

"Workers in community residences, transition houses, home support and other direct care-givers are extremely underpaid, mainly because the work is done by women. It is time for the government to rectify this situation. Inaction only aggravates the problem." says Ms. LeBlanc.

In this final year of the Gallant Government's mandate, the Coalition also wants to remind him of its promise to require pay equity plans from organizations that do business with government. The Coalition also wants to work with other organizations across the country to ensure that the federal government fulfills its promise to adopt pay equity legislation in areas under its jurisdiction.

"The Coalition is grateful for the important support from the population received to date. Without this support, the Coalition would have shut down a long time ago. It is clear that women's economic equality is an important value for New Brunswickers. Together, we are succeeding in advancing pay equity." says Johanne Perron, Executive Director of the Coalition.

The Coalition for Pay Equity has already raised $40 000. The public is invited to help reach its goal of $75 000 by making a donation by cheque or PayPal through its website: The Coalition has approximately 800 individual members and 89 member organizations.
