Voices of Women Forum: NB Coalition for Pay Equity looking forward to participate

The NB Coalition for Pay Equity is honoured to be nominated to sit on the newly formed Voices of Women Consensus-Building forum.

The Minister responsible for Women's Equality, Marie-Claude Blais, just announced the composition of the forum which is being established following the public outcry when the Advisory Council on the Status of Women was eliminated three years ago.

“Women worked hard to get a new body to advise the government and inform the public on women’s interests. We also had the support of many NB men. This is a perfect example of what we can do when we work together to bring about positive change!” says Vallie Stearns, Chair of the Coalition.

Ms Stearns adds that sufficient funding and good communication between the forum, the public and the government are essential.

“We are happy that the Minister consulted NB women and followed through on her commitment. We are now looking forward to working with other women and organizations devoted to women’s equality. Through our participation, we will do our best to contribute positively to the public’s awareness of women’s needs as well as their contributions to the province development. We hope that the whole government will listen to the Voices of women as the Minister did.”

The NB Coalition for Pay Equity has 90 member organizations and 900 individual members. It advocates for the adoption and the implementation of adequate legislation in order to achieve pay equity for all workers in both the public and private sectors.
