Moncton – The New Brunswick Coalition for Pay Equity is very pleased to see that the Green Party promised to amend the 2009 Pay Equity Act so that it would apply to private workplaces in its 2018 election platform.
“We applaud the Green Party for committing to protect the rights of private sector workers. Seventy percent of employed NB women work in the private sector,” says Frances LeBlanc, the Coalition Chair. “We urge every provincial political party to include pay equity legislation for the private sector in their election platform. Now is the time.”
Another good news for the NB Coalition for Pay Equity, the New Brunswick New Democratic Party pledged today to ensure better wages and working conditions to the community caregiving workers.
“Pay equity should be the cornerstone of any plan seeking to address the problems of worker retention and recruitment, as well as improving the quality of services offered,” explained Frances LeBlanc.
Pay equity is equal pay for work of equal value. It means recognizing the value of female-dominated jobs and paying them fairly compared to male-dominated jobs.
