The Problem
Women-dominated jobs are often undervalued and underpaid compared to men-dominated jobs of the same value. That is what we call pay inequity.
Here are examples of women-dominated jobs and men-dominated jobs that may have a comparable value:

The main difference between these jobs? The women-dominated ones are often paid less.
WAGE GAP
Pay inequity contributes to the wage gap and unfairly reduces women’s options.
According to Statistics Canada, NB women earned 92 cents per dollar earned by men for each hour they worked in 2024:
- Average hourly rate for MEN: $31.48
- Average hourly rate for WOMEN: $29.17
