Moncton – The New Brunswick Coalition for Pay Equity is disappointed by the lack of pay equity measures in the Progressive Conservative Party’s platform.
Pay equity legislation for the private sector is needed to ensure that all New Brunswickers benefit from the same protections as the ones ensured by the Pay Equity Act, 2009 for the public sector.
“We are disappointed that a major political party in New Brunswick has failed to commit to any measures to advance pay equity,” says Frances LeBlanc, the Coalition Chair. “Pay equity is a human right, and the women and men who work in predominantly female jobs deserve to be paid fairly and equitably. It is time to recognize the value of their work.”
Thus far, only the New Democratic Party and the Green Party have promised pay equity legislation for the private sector in their respective platforms.
