Pay equity absent from throne speech

Moncton – The New Brunswick Coalition for Pay Equity is disappointed with the lack of commitments to improve the wages of workers in predominantly female jobs in the throne speech.

“The speech revealed no concrete steps to resolving the recruitment and retention crisis in the caregiving sector nor did it mention pay equity,” says Coalition Chair Frances LeBlanc. “If the government is serious about improving New Brunswicker’s access to early childhood education and long-term care, it must start by improving wages in these sectors.”

We hope to see the government’s priorities in health care and education will translate into investments in wage increases in the next budget.
