Write to your local Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA).

We need proactive pay equity legislation for the private sector to ensure every worker’s right to pay equity is respected.

  • We obtained the Pay Equity Act, 2009 which applies to the public sector.
  • In the last provincial election, 3 out of 5 provincial parties promised to adopt pay equity legislation for the private sector in their electoral platform (Liberal, NDP and Green).
  • We need to keep the pressure!

Make your voice heard.

The Message
Member of New Brunswick Legislative Assembly (MLA):
Member Responsible for Women’s Equity:

I write to ask you to do your utmost to extend the Pay Equity Act, 2009 to the private sector.

Pay equity is a human right. Yet, female-dominated jobs are still undervalued and underpaid.

  • The value of the work should be determined by skills and qualifications, responsibilities, effort, and working conditions, and not the gender of the majority of people who perform it.
  • The average wage gap is 8.4%; women earn $2 less an hour than men.
  • 7 out of 10 female workers are employed in the private sector and do not benefit from the same protections as the public sector.

Please eliminate pay discrimination now and ensure that female-dominated jobs are paid fairly compared to male-dominated jobs.

I call upon you and the Government of New Brunswick to extend proactive pay equity legislation for the private sector to ensure all New Brunswickers are paid their fair value.

New Brunswick women cannot afford to wait, it’s time for action!
