Sylvia Melanson has been a New Brunswick provincial government employee for over 40 years and is currently employed with Social Development as a Screener taking applications for all department programs for the Southeast Zone regionally & provincially. She has been actively involved with the New Brunswick Union (NBU) well over 25 years. At present, she is a member, Director of AdministrativeAssistants Component, a Union Activist, the Chair of the NBU Women’s Committee, a member of the NBU Staff Relations Committee, and the Chair of the NBU Code of Solidarity Committee. As Chair of the NBU Women’s Committee, she participates in the National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) and in the Advisory Committee on Women’s Issues (ACWI) on a national level, which is very interesting and rewarding. It has also been very rewarding being on the board for the New Brunswick Pay Equity Coalition as an observer and board member.
